Managed to finish 2 animes in January, one of them being Shiki.
It's been years since I have fallen in love with anything vampire related. But this anime was surprisingly good.
I had seen a trailer and some scenes a while back and thought "Oh another vampire anime... it looks nicely drawn. I should give a try." and last week in my lack of anything else to watch I did give it a try. And was instantly hooked.
Others probably won't like it... I think that even if I would have watched it a few years ago I would feel differently about it. But I loved it, now that I tend to analyze things a bit more and not just mindlessly watch everything.
They style, although a bit weird here and there, was really nice, I loves some of the character designs. It was really pleasing to watch. Pleasing is saying it mildly, I fucking loved it.
I actually liked the physics defying hair some characters had.
There was something so hauntingly realistic about it. The village life, the doctor's obsession, the violence for violence's sake, the friendships... the whole damn thing, well except the undead blood sucker thing.
When I sat and thought about it, the way the old villagers were talking was so similar to how the old people on my grandparent's street gathered all in one place to gossip. Everybody knows everybody and people get very judgmental about new things.
Even the relationships and how they evolved...
Almost all characters got some screen time to tell their story.
To be honest I was a expecting a less depressing ending. It was good, but so damn sad... the priest and little miss shiki have to survive but not Natsu and Tohru TT_TT Why so many insignificant villagers and not the characters I loved and wanted to be together forever TT_TT.
Also the music...
Having Buck Tick(one of my favorite jrock bands) play both in the first opening and the second ending themes was a huge bonus to me.
[Disclaimer]: The lovely image and the two videos don't belong to me. They were gracefully provided by Youtube and Google.
